About
CVC was created from the caffeine induced hallucinations of three cyclists sitting at the Bean… who wanted to get a group of people together… ride their bikes as fast as they all could… and have a blast doing it. Then imagine if we could get some sponsorship from businesses to help us with group events & activities, and we display their logos on our uniforms in return? Wow, what a concept! With a little work, dedication, and some luck, the founding members of CVC were able to get 10 companies to support the cause through finances, services, and products. On top of this, membership grew from three to twenty-one on the club membership roster at the end of CVC´s first year of existence 2003–2004 and the growth continues today!
Organized weekly rides, compiling a great group of people, and proven race results were all achieved by CVC members in its first year of existence, and the future looks forward to expanding our program! CVC offers its members, sophisticated winter fitness programs, indoor team spinning sessions, and on the road racing tactic instruction. CVC plans to expand its ambitions both at the recreational and racing levels, while continuing to maintain its laid back, no “roadie attitude”, coffee crazed, environment.
If you love to ride your bike sometimes pretending you´re amongst Cavendish, Sastre, or Leipheimer; if you want to take your cycling to the next level with a great group of people with endless experience and resources, CVC is your club and we look forward to riding with you!
Based from the heart of Vancouver, CVC uses Bean Around the World on Main and 20th Avenue as its launch pad for most club rides. From the bi-weekly club recreation rides on Sunday mornings, to the elite road race preparation tempo rides held on alternate Saturdays, CVC has scheduled rides covering a variety of road cycling skill and fitness levels.
This past season saw organized Sunday club rides ranging between 60–120 km over a wide variety of terrain throughout the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley. Tempos vary as terrain dictate; usually 30km/h and above. These rides run every second Sunday weather permitting (if you want to get wet in the rain, go for it, but fenders would be nice), twelve months a year (excluding major holidays). Shorter and harder race training rides are held alternate Saturdays. See members area for more information (members only).
When the weather becomes a little more forgiving in the spring and summer months, traditionally higher tempo rides are held on Saturdays. This group consists of mostly riders looking to improve their fitness and skill set on the bike by pushing themselves to the maximum of their abilities. In addition to the weekend, as daylight grows, weeknights have taken the club up Mt. Seymour, to Horseshoe Bay, or interval training or a weekly session of hill climb suffering, that is well worth the it for the descent!
As many as three rides a week operate from CVC during peak cycling season, all in addition and supplemental to the annual Cycling BC racing schedule. Going into next season, CVC continues to grow in membership numbers and resources for its members to draw from.
